Chestnut in colour like his five-time G1-winning sire New Approach, the first foal out of the Filante mare Bonnie Ann was born on 2 August in Victoria and was described by breeder Mr Jack Hirsch as, "a nice flashy looking chestnut colt."
Bonnie Ann is a full-sister to the Stakes-performed Star Rose with both being out of the Al Hareb mare Pirate Rose, herself a three-quarter sister to the dual G1-winning sprinter Hareeba. Pirate Rose foaled a bay Bernardini filly in 2009 and will return to the World’s best three-year-old of 2006 this season.
New Approach (pictured) was a dual G1-winning two-year-old who landed the G1 Epsom Derby at three in spectacular fashion. He rounded off his illustrious career with a dominant display in the G1 Champion Stakes, winning by a staggering six lengths, smashing the 24-year-old Newmarket course record.
Having arrived in Australia from his northern hemisphere base on 2 August, New Approach has now entered quarantine before heading to Darley’s Victorian base Northwood Park where he will cover his second book of mares at a fee of $33,000 including GST.
