Ageless galloper Cascadian took his career prize-money earnings past $5 million and his Black-Type race wins to five when he powered to the line to take the G2 Hill Stakes over 2,000m on Saturday, 1 October at Royal Randwick in Sydney.
The eight-year-old Irish-bred gelding, by New Approach out of Falls Of Lora, settled at the rear of the six-horse field before champion jockey James McDonald angled between runners over the famous Randwick rise.
Although regarded as specialist miler, Cascadian revelled on the heavy track to run past Numerian and the tiring favourite Montefilia to win by a widening 3.25 lengths to record his first victory over 2,000m.
Godolphin head trainer James Cummings decided to bring Cascadian back from Melbourne after two starts this preparation, with happy results.
A dual G1 winner at Randwick, Cascadian has now won nine times and been placed on 12 occasions from 41 starts for prize-money earnings of $5,159,575.
His sire New Approach won five G1 races and eight in total from just 11 starts.
He was European champion as a two- and three-year-old and has sired 59 individual Stakes winners - including nine at G1 level.
New Approach stands at Darley’s Dalham Hall Stud at Newmarket in England for a private service fee.
