New Approach, who sired impressive Glasgow Stakes winner Sameem on Friday night, recorded his second Black Type winner in three days on Sunday, 21 July when his son Impulsif took the G3 Prix Messidor, run over a mile at Deauville.
The Andre Fabre-trained four-year-old was soon in front under Mickael Barzalona and was in command throughout, easily repelling the late challenge from Trais Fluors to win by half a length. Last year’s G1 Prix du Jockey Club winner Study Of Man was a length and a quarter further back in third.
This was the fourth victory in six starts for Impulsif, who is out of the winning Kingmambo mare Violante, herself a half-sister to another French Derby winner in Anabaa Blue. Impulsif’s third dam is the blue hen Allegretta, meaning he is from the same female family as New Approach’s 2018 Epsom Derby hero Masar.
New Approach is now sire of 13 Black Type performers so far in 2019, including G2 Dante Stakes winner Telecaster, plus G3 winner and G2-placed colt Flop Shot. Last weekend, his progressive son Jalmoud took third in the G1 Grand Prix de Paris.
