Given an brilliant front-running ride by Umberto Rispoli, New Approach’s son Nearly Caught landed his first Stakes race on Thursday 21 July when taking the Listed Prix du Carrousel at Deauville. Sent to the front from the stalls, he was always travelling sweetly and quickening clear at the head of the straight, he won with ease by five lengths.
Coming into the race on the back of a very close third in the Listed Esher Stakes, he had previously occupied the same position behind his paternal half-brother Antiquarium in the Northumberland Plate.
Bred by the Irish National Stud, he is out of the winning Danehill mare Katch Me Katie and a half-brother to G2-winning stayer Pale Mimosa (Singspiel).
Nearly Caught becomes New Approach’s eighth individual Stakes winner of 2016 with his other notable performers including the G2 Middleton Stakes heroine Beautiful Romance and German star Potemkin, who has won seven of his ten career starts.
