The next New star
Cap O’Rushes, last seen finishing a very creditable fourth in the Irish Derby, became the eighth individual Stakes winner for New Approach on 31 July when landing the G3 Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
Settled just off the pace under Mickael Barzalona, the three-year-old Godolphin colt took the lead in the home straight and although headed close to home, battled back well to take the 12-furlong contest by a head.
He is now likely to head for the St Leger, a race for which he is now quoted at around 10-1 to win and become the third Classic winner this year for his sire, following Dawn Approach’s five-length victory in the 2,000 Guineas and Talent’s impressive win in the Oaks.
Bred by Darley, Cap O’Rushes is out of the G1 winner Valley Of Gold (Shirley Heights), also dam of fellow Group winner Splendid Era.
