Trading Leather lands G3 Autumn Stakes
The Rowley Mile proved a happy hunting ground for the Darley stallions on Future Champions’ Day, with Exceed And Excel colt Fulbright taking the G2 Challenge Stakes before Dawn Approach (New Approach) trounced his rivals in the G1 Dewhurst Stakes. The last two-year-old race of the card, the one-mile G3 Autumn Stakes, was won in game style by Teofilo’s Trading Leather to complete a tremendous Darley-sired Group-race treble.
Always prominent under Kevin Manning, Trading Leather was challenged close to home by the previously unbeaten Montiridge but dug in deep and battled impressively close to home to win by three-quarters of a length, providing trainer Jim Bolger with a juvenile double.
Second in the Listed Golden Fleece Stakes at Leopardstown on his racecourse debut, Trading Leather broke his maiden by an astounding seven lengths at Gowran Park on 23 September. He has now earned quotes of around 16-1 for next year’s Derby.
Bred by his trainer, Trading Leather is the second winner out of the Sinndar mare Night Visit, whose own dam is a full sister to treble G1 winner Hatoof.
Teofilo has now sired six individual Black type winners this year, including G2 winner and Irish Derby third, Light Heavy, plus talented juvenile Roz – last seen finishing second behind Godolphin’s Certify (Elusive Quality) in the G1 Fillies’ Mile.
