The Darley stallions and Godolphin enjoyed a Black Type double on Friday, 31 January when Teofilo’s son First Conquest came from off the pace to land the feature race of the night, the G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes, following Romantic Style’s (Night Of Thunder) easy victory in the Listed Dubai sprint.
Romantic Style was dropping back to six furlongs following her second in the G2 Cape Verdi two weeks ago, and the four-year-old filly clearly relished the shorter trip. Settled towards the rear early on under William Buick, Charlie Appleby’s charge quickened impressively once inside the final two furlongs and ran on superbly to win by two and a half lengths.
Bred by Bred by Wansdyke Farm, Sh Bloodstock, J Burke and Oghill, Romantic Style was a 550,000gns yearling and is a daughter of the G3-winning juvenile Sweety Dream, dam of two Stakes winners from two foals to race. The dam is herself a half-sister to multiple G2 winner Easter.
Later on the Meydan card, Teofilo’s lightly raced four-year-old son First Conquest added a first Group win to his record in impressive style in the 10-furlong G3 Dubai Millennium Stakes.
Dropped in at the very rear of the field, First Conquest had to come widest of all around the final turn, but cruised past his rivals down the straight to win by a length and a half.
First Conquest is out of the Dubawi mare Patroness, making him a full brother to fellow Stakes winner Key Victory and a half-brother to G1 winner Blair House. The mare is herself a full sister to G1 winner and late Darley sire, Poet’s Voice.
Teofilo has excelled at stud both as a sire, with 24 G1 winners, and as a broodmare sire – his daughters have produced eight top-flight winners to date.
He stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €30.000, Oct 1, SLF.
