The perfect start
First-season sire New Approach could not have made a better start to his stud career when, in the very first two-year-old race of the season in Ireland, his first ever runner Dawn Approach won in convincing style.
Settled in second position, Jim Bolger’s homebred took up the running as the field approached the final furlong and eased clear of his rivals close to home to win by a length and three quarters.
Dawn Approach becomes the second winner from two runners out of Hymn Of The Dawn (Phone Trick). She is a half-sister to G1 performer Galantas and is from the family of G1 winners Miss Oceana and Kitwood.
New Approach himself recorded a perfect five victories from five starts as a juvenile, including a pair of G1 wins in the Dewhurst and the National Stakes. He went on to win not only the Derby, but also the English and Irish Champion Stakes, winning the former in record time.
He stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £22,500, October 1st Special live foal.
