Teofilo’s consistent four-year-old son Gear Up added another Group victory to his record on Thursday, 4 August when prevailing in a thrilling renewal of the G3 Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown.
Settled in second under Dylan Brown McMonagle, Gear Up travelled well throughout the 12-furlong contest and taking the lead two furlongs out, outbattled the fast-finishing Cleveland in tremendous fashion to win by a neck.
This was Gear Up’s third Group victory, having landed the G3 Acomb and G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud at two. He was last seen finishing a creditable second in the G2 Curragh Cup.
Bred by Jim Bolger, Gear Up is the second Group winner by Teofilo out of Gearani (Toccet), also dam of G3 winner and G2 performer Guaranteed. They are from the family of multiple G1 winner Dispute.
Gear Up is one of 17 top-flight winners for Teofilo, and his fifth Group winner of 2022.
