G1 Prix Saint Alary heroine Tawkeel (Teofilo) made it a perfect five from five on Saturday, 22 August with victory in the G2 Prix de la Nonette at Deauville.
Tawkeel was settled in second during the early stages of the 10-furlong contest, before making headway two furlongs from home. Taking the lead with a furlong left to run, Tawkeel was hard pressed close to home by eventual second Tickle Me Green but found more approaching the line to reassert herself and win by half a length.
Tawkeel has been a model of consistency throughout 2020, breaking her maiden back in January, before two further victories earned her a step up to G1 level in the Prix Saint Alary in June. She could not have been more impressive that day at Chantilly, taking the 10-furlong contest by no fewer than five lengths. She is now likely to be aimed at the G1 Prix de l’Opera on Arc day.
Owned and bred by Shadwell Stud, Tawkeel is the first foal to race out of the Stakes-winning Oasis Dream mare Rafaadah. The dam is herself a daughter of Champion juvenile and Champion three-year-old sprinter Joanna.
Teofilo has now sired two Group winners this week, following Gear Up’s victory in the Acomb at York. Last weekend, he added an 18th G1 winner to his CV when Donjah landed the Preis von Europa in Germany.
