Two-year-old Teofilo filly Fireglow added a second Black type win to her record in tremendous style on 31 October, storming to a four-length victory in the one-mile Montrose Fillies’ Stakes at Newmarket.
Quickly away under Joe Fanning, Fireglow was settled in second position and taking the lead inside the final furlong, eased further and further clear of her rivals to win easily. This was the third career win for Mark Johnston’s charge, who won on her racecourse debut back in May, before taking the Listed Star Stakes at Sandown in July.
Fireglow is out of the Group-placed King’s Best mare Fading Light, from the family of multiple G1 winner Camelot.
Teofilo has enjoyed a tremendous year on the racecourse, with multiple G1 winners Pleascach and Kermadec heading up his 18 Black type winners. A further seven of his runners have placed at G1 level this year, including star miler Arod.
