Stakes double for Dubawi
In similar fashion to her previous victory in the Silk Stocking at the Gold Coast, three-year-old Dubawi filly Srikandi once again dominated her rivals, defeating Exceed And Excel filly Miniature in the Listed Juanmo Stakes over 6f at Doomben, Australia.
Settling in second on the rail after a very good jump away from the gates, jockey Glen Boss allowed his filly to come from around the heels of the leader as they turned, pulling away to score by two-and-a-quarter lengths.
With a possible tilt at the G1 Stradbroke Handicap in the coming weeks, no three-year-old filly has won the race since 2003, when another Glen Boss-ridden filly was successful.
Bred by Mr J. Collins, Srikandi is out of the Hurricane Sky mare Raining, herself a half-sister to the dam of Listed winner PortofinoBay. Already the dam of the G3 Final Fling Stakes winner Rain Gal and the Listed placed Arjuna, this is also the family of G1 winner Pontormo and G3 winners Madame Shinko and Opiki.
Two races later, fellow three-year-old Dubawi filly Arabian Gold recorded her third successive Stakes victory and fourth overall, winning the G2 The Roses over 10f at Doomben.
Settling in a midfield position on the rail, jockey Blake Shinn allowed his filly to amble up to the leaders rounding the home turn, and with ears pricked, she was eased down to record another emphatic victory, this time scoring by a length-and-a-quarter.
Holding nominations to the G1 Queensland Derby and the G1 Queensland Oaks, as to where the filly will step out next time is dependent on how she pulls up.
Bred by Mr Nick Moraitis, Arabian Gold is the first Stakes winner and fourth winner overall out of metropolitan-winning Vettori mare Coablo, a sister to Stakes performer Pentalikon.
The sire of 70 individual Stakes winner, Dubawi stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £100,000 alongside his G1-winning son Poet's Voice who stands at £12,000 Oct 1st, SLF.
