Potemkin, a five-year-old son of New Approach, became the second Darley-sired Group winner at Chantilly and their third European Group winner of the afternoon on 1 October when landing the G2 Prix Dollar.
Prominent throughout under Eduardo Pedroza, Andreas Wohler’s charge came with a fantastic run inside the final furlong and swept past Hesham to win by a length and three quarters.
A wonderfully consistent performer, Potemkin has never finished out of the first three and has now won three Group contests, following his victories in the G3 Preis der Deutschen Einheit late last year and in the G3 Grosser Preis der Wirtschaft back in June.
Potemkin was bred by Gestut Fahrhof and is out of the Stakes-placed mare Praia, a half-sister to Champion juvenile and G1 winner Paita.
New Approach’s best crop so far are now yearlings, with 13 well-bred youngsters due to go under the hammer at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1 next week.
