Royal Rumble, a three-year-old son of New Approach, became the 25th Stakes winner for his sire with a fast-finishing victory in the Listed C S Hayes Memorial Cup at Morphettville in South Australia on 14 March.
After settling in last during the early stages, jockey Claire Lindop began to make her move coming to the final bend and had Royal Rumble in clear galloping room straightening for home. The three-year-old momentarily looked to have given his older counterparts too much start but powered home over the concluding stages to grab a thrilling victory in the final stride.
Bred and raced by Harry Perks, Royal Rumble is the first Stakes winner out of the metropolitan-winning French Deputy mare Queen’s Kiss.
The sire of four G1 winners including Champion Dawn Approach and Oaks heroine Talent, New Approach stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £60,000 October 1st SLF.
