Manduro sired a potentially very smart winner on Sunday October 16, when his son Mandaean beat six fellow newcomers at Longchamp. Well-regarded by his trainer Andre Fabre, he was sent off a hot favourite and made no mistake, scoring by three-lengths hard-held over the 1800m trip. He made such an impression that the TDN has him flagged as a New Rising Star.
Bred by Darley, he is a half-brother to 2011 G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroine Wavering, who is by Haras du Logis’s new recruit Refuse To Bend. Mandaean’s dam, Summertime Legacy (Darshaan), was a G3-winning juvenile in France who was placed in at the highest level in the Prix Saint-Alary. She also has produced a full-brother yearling to Mandaean, a colt foal by Dalham Hall stallion Halling and is currently in foal to New Approach.
An unbeaten Champion as a juvenile, Manduro progressed to become the world's best in 2007 when completing a G1 treble in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes, Prix Jacques le Marois and Prix d'Ispahan. He is the sire now of four impressive winners, three of which are unbeaten on their only start; today’s victor Mandaean, Bonfire, who won at Salisbury and is rated 92p by Timeform and Kolonel, who made a favorable impression on debut at Baden-Baden. His other scorer, Salez, was last seen when a close fourth in the Listed Criterium de l’Ouest in France.
