Listed country cup for son of Teofilo in Australia

G1 winner Sonntag returns in style

G1-winning Teofilo four-year-old Sonntag resumed from a spell with a fast-finishing win in the Listed Sale Cup over a mile in Australia, October 26.

Facing the starter for the first time since his G1 Queensland Derby triumph in June, Sonntag settled towards the rear of the field in the early stages. Jockey Michael Rodd brought the entire to the centre of the track in the home straight and he finished powerfully to grab victory in the final few strides.

Bred by Darley, Sonntag is the first foal of metropolitan-winning Strategic mare Parfaits, a half-sister to Stakes winner Ice Cream Sundae, the dam of G1 winner Flavour.

Sonntag is one of 12 Stakes winners in 2014 for Teofilo, while he is one of his sire’s six career G1 winners.
