Character showed his class and gave champion sire Teofilo another Group success when he burst through the pack to easily win the G2 Queensland Guineas over 1,600m on Saturday, 30 April at Eagle Farm in Brisbane.
Jockey James Orman positioned the three-year-old gelding, out of Monogram, in sixth spot on the fence before taking a run between the leaders at the 300m pole.
Character dashed clear on the firmer track and was eased up on the line to beat Dark Destroyer and Ashgrove, recording his fourth win with four placings from 16 starts for prize money and bonuses totalling $476,665.
It was also Character’s second black-type victory following his win in the G2 Tulloch Stakes over 1,850m at Newcastle on 28 March for Godolphin head trainer James Cummings.
Character could now be aimed at the G1 Queensland Derby over 2,400m on 28 May.
