Aktau, a four-year-old son of Teofilo, won his first Stakes race on Saturday, 21 March when getting up late in the Listed Mornington Cup. Originally trained by Roger Varian in Newmarket, he has since won three of his four starts for Michael Moroney in Australia.
His victory in the $350,000 contest guarantees a position in the G1 Caulfield Cup, run in October.
Bred by Hesmonds Stud, Aktau is a son of the G2-placed mare Rare Ransom (Oasis Dream), who also has a yearling filly by Fast Company.
The Teofilo, Oasis Dream-mare cross has now produced four Stakes performers from only 11 runners at a very impressive 36%. They are headed by G2 winner Twilight Payment and the Classic-entered three-year-old filly Tawkeel, unbeaten in two starts in France this year.
Teofilo is covering this season at a fee of €40,000 Oct 1, SLF.
