With 34 European first-crop winners to his name, Dubawi has romped ahead of his peers this season and his achievement has been duly noted by the Thoroughbred Breeders’ Assocation which has awarded him the Tattersalls’ Silver Salver as the leading British-based first-season sire based on flat earnings.
The Dalham Hall Stud resident finished second in the overall list of new sires to fellow Darley representative Shamardal, who stands at Kildangan Stud in Ireland. Both young sires also shuttle to Australia, where Dubawi is represented by his first runners this season and Shamardal, a year ahead of him in the southern hemisphere, has already celebrated a Classic winner in the form of VRC Oaks heroine Faint Perfume, trained by the great Bart Cummings.
Dubawi, a Group One winner at two and Classic winner at three, is a Darley homebred from the sole crop of Dubai Millennium. Among his talented first runners are the Group Two winners Poet’s Voice and Sand Vixen, both of whom, like their sire and grandsire, race in the royal blue silks of Godolphin.
