Red Card could be set for feature fillies’ races during the Brisbane winter carnival after the speedy daughter of former champion Irish galloper Ribchester impressively won the Listed Denise’s Joy Stakes at Scone on Saturday, 13 May.
Jockey Sam Clipperton jumped the three-year-old from a wide gate to park in third spot behind the leaders before challenging at the top of the home straight.
Red Card sprinted quickly to the lead and drew clear to beat the fast-finishing Written In Code by two-and-a-half lengths, with the winner’s stablemate Ojai another one-and-a-quarter lengths away in third place.
Out of the Australian mare Penalty, Red Card clocked a sizzling 1 minute 2.02 seconds for the 1,100m journey - including a final 600m in 33.42 seconds.
It was the James Cummings-trained filly’s first Stakes victory, but the ease of her win was an indication of more to come.
Red Card became the seventh Stakes winner for Ribchester, whose three-year-old son Flaming Rib was a G1 runner-up in the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot last June.
