First-season sire Night Of Thunder recorded his second winner in impressive style on Thursday, 23 May when Wild Thunder was victorious at the first time of asking at Goodwood.
Soon into his stride under jockey Sean Levey, Wild Thunder was settled off the early pace before taking up the running two furlongs out. Once in front, the Richard Hannon-trained colt kept to his task superbly to hold off the late challenge from Buhturi (Raven’s Pass) and win by three quarters of a length.
Incidentally, this is the race in which 2018 Derby winner Masar (New Approach) broke his maiden two years ago, plus Exceed And Excel’s subsequent Molecomb Stakes winner Yalta a year earlier.
Wild Thunder was bred by Anthony Kirwan and is the first foal out of the Teofilo mare Shama’s Song. The dam is herself a half-sister to G2 Rockfel Stakes winner Cape Dollar (Cape Cross).
Night Of Thunder was himself an undefeated Stakes winner a two, who went on to win the strongest renewal of the 2,000 Guineas for 40 years, before returning at four to win the Lockinge. He is also sire of Royal Ascot prospect Expressionist, winner of his first start at Ascot earlier this month.
Night Of Thunder stands alongside his sire Dubawi at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £15,000, Oct 1, SLF.
