Following his dominant win in last month’s G3 John Porter Stakes, Dubawi’s four-year-old son Dartmouth added a second Group victory to his record on 6 May when landing the G3 Ormonde Stakes at Chester.
Sent straight to the front this time under Ryan Moore, Dartmouth (who is trained by Sir Michael Stoute for H M The Queen) travelled well around the tight Chester turns and despite being hard pressed close to home, quickened up superbly to win by a neck from Wicklow Brave with Cape Cross’s Elidor three-quarters of a length back in third.
Dartmouth is out of the Group-winning Galileo mare Galatee, a half-sister to Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Arcangues plus French Guineas second Agathe (herself dam of multiple G1 winner Aquarelliste). Dartmouth is now the third Black type winner out of Galatee, with Godolphin’s useful G2 winner Manatee another of her talented performers.
Dartmouth is one of 16 Black type performers so far this year for Dubawi, undoubtedly one of the world’s pre-eminent sires. Dubawi is also sire this year of G1 Dubai Sheema Classic winner Postponed and fellow Group winners Raseed, Safety Check and Sheikhzayedroad.
