Helmet simply could not have made a better start with his first European runners, with his daughters Boater and Chupalla winning by a combined 13 lengths just under two weeks ago. On 13 April, his son Orewa maintained his sire’s 100% strike rate when landing the five-furlong maiden at Beverley on his racecourse debut.
Despite not getting off to the best start and looking green for much of the race, once asked for his effort, Orewa ran on superbly to eventually win by three lengths from the more experienced Decadent Times.
Bred by Mrs C Regalado-Gonzalez, Orewa is out of the Group-winning Sadler’s Wells mare Lucky, a full sister to G1 2,000 Guineas and G1 National Stakes winner King Of Kings and G1 performer Amethyst.
Helmet was himself an outstanding two-year-old (and the best so far by Exceed And Excel, the world's best sire of two-year-olds), winning twice at G1 level during his juvenile season. He went on to win the G1 Caulfield Guineas in record time at three.
Helmet stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £8,000 October 1st SLF.
