Queen's Vase for Hartnell
Hartnell, a three-year-old son of Authorized, landed his first Stakes race on the Friday of Royal Ascot when winning the Queen's Vase. A progressive and hardy juvenile who had seven starts between July and November culminating in a third in the G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud, he won today's contest on the back of a second in the Lingfield Derby Trial.
Hartnell was Authorized's second winner of the week at Royal Ascot after Elite Army's impressive victory on Thursday in the King George V Handicap.
Bred by Darley, Hartnell is closely related to G1-juvenile Roz and out of the winning Anabaa mare Debonnaire.
Authorized is sire of three G1 winners; Ambivalent, who has also won the G2 Middleton Stakes at York this year before an excellent third in the Coronation Cup, Seal Of Approval and Complacent. In 2014, he has sired nine individual Stakes performers, as well as Ambivalent he has G3 Prix Allez France winner Daksha and Lingfield Oaks Trial heroine Honor Bound.
