Cape Cross colt remains unbeaten

Windhoek, a three-year-old colt by Cape Cross, remained unbeaten when making all the running in the Listed Newmarket Stakes over their straight ten-furlong course, winning by three-and-a-quarter lengths from Centurius (New Approach).

A one-raced unbeaten juvenile, he had shown his class on his seasonal reappearance at the Craven meeting when winning the hugely valuable Tattersalls Millions 3-y-o Trophy. He will now likely step up further in class as he holds entries in the Dante, King Edward VII and Eclipse Stakes.

Bred by Horizon Bloodstock Limited, and bought by his trainer Mark Johnston for 110,000Gns, his is out of the Stakes-placed mare Kahlua Kiss and from the family of G1 winners Special Ring and Poliglote. Kahlua Kiss also has a two-year-old filly by Authorized and has been scanned in foal this season to Exceed And Excel.

Cape Cross, who sired another Stakes winner in Burke's Rock earlier in the day, stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €35,000. He has sired nine G1 winners including Champions Sea The Stars and Ouija Board and his best-bred crop are juveniles this season. They already include the unbeaten Saburo, who is likely to follow the same plan as Dawn Approach (New Approach) for trainer Jim Bolger.
