Qaraaba cruises in G3 Robert J Frankel Stakes
Qaraaba became the 24th Graded/Group winner for her sire Shamardal December 30 winning the G3 Robert J Frankel Stakes at Santa Anita. It was the second score in a row for the chalk, who took a race at Hollywood in her first North American start on November 15.
In the one and one-eighth turf race Qaraaba settled in the back of the pack early on. The mare traveled wide heading for home and took command in the stretch for the win.
Bred by Shadwell Estate Company Limited, Qaraaba is out of the winning Unfuwain mare Mokaraba, who is a granddaughter of blue hen Salsabil and from the family of fellow Darley stallion Echo Of Light.
Shamardal has sired 47 Stakes winners to date. The group is headlined by eight G1 winners including Lope De Vega, Faint Perfume, Zazou, Sagawara and Captain Sonador.
Shamardal will stand the upcoming season at Kildangan Stud in Ireland for 50,000 euro.
