Shamardal sired two Group winners at Longchamp on Sunday, 13 September.
First to strike was the Dermot Weld-trained four-year-old filly Tarnawa, who easily landed her first top-level contest in the Prix Vermeille by three lengths. The winner of half of her 12 career starts, she has now won five Group races and is unbeaten in two starts in 2020.
Owned and bred by The Aga Khan, Tarnawa is the first foal of the Stakes-winning Cape Cross mare Tarana, who herself is a daughter of the Listed Galtres Stakes heroine Tarakala.
It didn’t take long for Shamardal to notch up a double as Earthlight returned to the winners enclosure in the G3 Prix du Pin in the following race.
Earthlight was a spectacular juvenile, unbeaten in five starts that included victories in the G1 Darley Prix Morny and G1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.
After a slight injury early in 2020, he won on his seasonal debut in the Listed Prix Kistena at Deauville in July, before finishing a narrow fourth behind Space Blues (Dubawi) in the G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest the following month, his only career defeat.
Earthlight is out of the G1-placed juvenile Winters Moon (New Approach), who is a half-sister to two G1 winners in Wavering and Mandaean.
