Thunder Snow rounded off a hugely successful first season for his sire Helmet last year when storming to victory in the G1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud, and on 11 February he returned to the racecourse in tremendous fashion when taking the G3 UAE 2,000 Guineas.
Sent off as a strong favourite to take the one-mile contest, the Godolphin colt was settled just off the pace under Christophe Soumillon and taking the lead a full four furlongs out, eased further and further ahead of his rivals to win by five and three-quarter lengths.
Thunder Snow won on his racecourse debut and has raced only in Group company ever since, finishing second in the G2 Vintage and G2 Champagne Stakes before his first victory at the highest level.
He is out of Eastern Joy (Dubai Destination), also dam of Shamardal’s G1 performer Ihtimal and fellow Stakes winner Always Smile (Cape Cross).
Helmet is also sire of Group-winning duo Limestone and Archives in his native Australia, plus a further five Black type performers.
Helmet stands at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £10,000 October 1st SLF.
