Promising three-year-old colt Archives, a son of G1 winner Helmet, fought back tenaciously to win his second Stakes race with victory in the G3 Red Anchor Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 22.
Trained by John O’Shea and ridden by James McDonald, Archives settled four wide early in the field of six and appeared headed before the big-striding colt fought back late to prove too strong for his rivals.
Archives, a winner of two races from five starts, also won the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on May 21.
The impressive colt was bred by Darley and is out of G1 winner Preserve, a half-sister to G1 Golden Rose winner and Darley stallion Denman. Archives is a half-brother to multiple G3 winner Safeguard (Exceed And Excel) and G2-placed Shaumari (Medaglia d'Oro).
As well as Archives, Helmet has sired 16 European winners including G2-placed Thunder Snow, G3-placed Eqtiraan, G3-placed filly Mur Hiba and Listed-placed filly Boater.
