Hartnell added a third Group victory in Australia, and fourth overall, to his record with an impressive seven-and-three-quarter length win in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes over 1600m at Royal Randwick on September 3.
The son of Authorized enjoyed a comfortable run along the fence just off the speed under jockey James McDonald. After peeling to the outside as the field entered the straight, the five-year-old gelding unleashed a devastating turn of foot that saw him cruise to a dominant victory.
A previous winner of the G1 ATC BMW Stakes, he is out of Anabaa mare Debonnaire, with three winners from as many runners to her name. Hartnell is a Darley homebred and stems from the family of French Champion and three-time Group 1 winner Suave Dancer.
Authorized is the sire of four G1 winners, who include Hartnell, Ambivalent, Complacent and Seal of Approval.
