The annual TBA Awards was held at Tattersalls last night and Darley stallion Dubawi was awarded the Silver Salver as leading British-based first-season sire based on Flat earnings following an excellent first year with his runners in 2009.
Dubawi sired no fewer than 34 winners last year (just one behind the record set by Invincible Spirit) and was second only to fellow Darley sire Shamardal in the overall prize money list. He also recorded two G2 winners in Poet’s Voice and Sand Vixen.
This year, Dubawi’s progeny have been enjoying an outstanding run of success, headed by 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi (pictured) and dual Classic winner Worthadd. He was also responsible for two Black type winners at Ascot’s recent Royal meeting, following Afsare’s victory in the Listed Hampton Court Stakes followed by Monterosso’s hugely impressive win in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes.
He has now sired ten individual Stakes winners, seven of whom have won at Group level.
Moyesii, dam of Sulamani's St Leger winner Mastery, was named flat broodmare of the year, winning the H J Joel Silver Salver.
