Born To Run completes a Stakes-race treble for the Darley sires
There were three Stakes races on the card at Munich on Sunday afternoon and every one of them was won by a Darley-sired runner, with Shirocco’s Born To Run rounding off a superb day in Germany when landing the one-mile G3 Preis des Winterfavoriten.
Settled at the rear of the field, Born To Run was still last at the halfway stage but once asked to quicken upon entering the home straight, he shot up the rail to take up the running and from then on the result was never in doubt as he eased clear to win by two and a quarter lengths. Nadelwald (Shamardal) kept on well to take second, while Magic Artist (Iffraaj) was just a length behind him in fourth place. This is a race won previously by future World Champion and fellow Darley stallion Manduro.
Bred by Gestut Gorlsdorf, Born To Run is the fourth winner and first Group winner out of the Group-placed mare Bravo Gorl.
Earlier in the afternoon, the two divisions of the Listed Nereide-Rennen were won by Daksha (Authorized) and Lady Liberty (Shirocco) respectively, giving the Darley sires a clean sweep of the day’s Black type races.
Shirocco is now sire of eight Stakes winners this year, including Goodwood Cup winner Brown Panther (currently being aimed at the Melbourne Cup), Lillie Langtry Stakes winner and G1 Prix Vermeille second Wild Coco, and Group-winning sprinter Abu Sidra.
Daksha was also providing Authorized with his second Black type winner of the weekend, following Complacent’s outstanding win in the G1 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick.
