First-season sire Too Darn Hot added a third individual Group winner to his record on Wednesday 30 August, when Carolina Reaper took the G3 Zukunfts Rennen, run over seven furlongs at Baden-Baden.
Settled towards the rear under Jack Mitchell, the Charlie Johnston-trained filly came wide around the final turn and moving across to the stands side rail, kept on well to win by a neck.
Carolina Reaper was bred by Lordship Stud and is one of four winners out of the Stakes-winning Shamardal mare Dark Promise. The mare is herself a half-sister to G1 Oaks winner Love Divine, dam of St Leger winner Sixties Icon. Dark Promise is also a three-parts sister to Shamardal’s multiple G1 winner Dan Excel.
Too Darn Hot is also sire of last Saturday’s G3 Prestige Stakes winner Darnation and Sweet Solera heroine Fallen Angel, who hold an entry in next month’s G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes and no first-season sire has had as many Group winners at this stage for 20 years.
