Big-race double for Too Darn Hot

Three-year-olds in Sydney and Melbourne bolster young stallion’s growing stud record.

Broadsiding and Shanwah provided Darley sire sensation Too Darn Hot with a brilliant Group-race double when they claimed races at Rosehill Gardens and Moonee Valley on Saturday, 22 March.

Broadsiding boosted his reputation even higher when landing a thrilling victory in the G1 Rosehill Guineas over 2,000m, his fourth victory at the highest level, and his second as a three-year-old.

Trapped wide early and taken around the field by champion jockey James McDonald, Broadsiding turned for home in third place before surging to the lead and holding off the fast-finishing Aeliana.

A previous winner of the G1 Champagne Stakes (1,600m), G1 J.J. Atkins Stakes (1,600m) and G1 Golden Rose (1,500m), Broadsiding showed his stamina and class when stepping up in trip to 2,000m for Godolphin trainer James Cummings. He was recording his seventh win and has taken his prize money haul to just shy of $4 million.

His victory was the second leg of a brilliant double for Too Darn Hot following Shanwah’s victory in the G2 Alister Clark Stakes over 2,040m at The Valley.

The Ciaron Maher-trained three-year-old was confidently ridden and beat Imperialist and Statuario by two lengths to claim his fourth consecutive victory and his second consecutive G2, taking his prize money earnings to $558,975.

Too Darn Hot is another Darley shuttle stallion in terrific form in Australia, and the double comes just a few weeks after Rivellino (Too Darn Hot) landed the G2 Skyline Stakes over 1,200m at Randwick.

He recently enjoyed a brilliant treble when Broadsiding won the G2 Hobartville Stakes at Rosehill Gardens, Tropicus won the G3 Sedative Stakes, and Shanwah won the G2 Autumn Classic, both successful at Caulfield.

“He’s the most exciting stallion in the country, there’s no doubt about that,” Godolphin’s racing and breeding manager Jason Walsh said.

“He’s been represented on these big days with dual Stakes winners, including a G1 winner.

“He’s doing it weekend after weekend and it’s a great credit to all the people who have supported him along the journey and I’m sure there’s many more benefits to be reaped on the path ahead.

“There are a lot of horses that we have yet to see, but what we have seen is that he’s a high-class stallion who is capable of getting horses who are capable of running big races on big days.

“He’s a hugely exciting prospect for our organisation.”

Too Darn Hot has sired 146 winners of 238 races worldwide, including 23 Stakes winners of 39 Black-Type races.

Too Darn Hot stands at Dalham Hall Stud, Newmarket for a fee of £90,000, Oct 1, SLF.
