Shamardal, one of last season’s leading first-season sires, recorded two Black type winners within minutes of each other on 3 October when two-year-old colt Run For Wilson landed the Listed NSW Breeders Plate on his racecourse debut at Randwick, shortly followed by victory for Shamoline Warrior in the UCI Stakes at Flemington.
Patinack Farm’s Run For Wilson became Shamardal’s first Australian Stakes winner, flying down the straight to record a length-and-three-quarter win in the 1000m NSW Breeders Plate. His paternal half-brother Jigsaws took second in the race to provide their sire with the quinella.
Bred by Mr D Parker, Run For Wilson is out of the multiple winner Ocean Bridge.
Minutes later at Flemington, Shamoline Warrior established himself as a leading contender for the Victoria Derby with a half-length victory in the 1800m UCI Stakes.
Bred by Toorak Park Stud, Shamoline Warrior is out of Picholine (Dehere), making him a half-brother to last year’s VRC Derby winner Rebel Raider, who is by fellow Darley stallion Reset.
There was also Stakes success for Strategic, whose five-year-old daughter Illuminates won the Listed Angst Stakes to record her second Black type win. She is out of the Danzero mare Dazzle Light, who is herself a half-sister to mutiple Group winner Stoway, being from the G1 Queensland Oaks winner Travel Light.
Also on Saturday, Street Cry's G1-winning son Predatory Pricer was narrowly beaten into second in the G1 Turnbull Stakes, whilst First Command (Commands) took the same spot in the G2 Gilgai Stakes.
