Shamardal’s brilliant four-year-old daughter Tarnawa landed her third straight top-flight contest on Saturday, 7 November when winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland. Held up near the rear under jockey Colin Keane, she came with her run down the outside in the stretch, quickening past all her rivals to win easily.
Now the winner of eight of her 14 career starts, she had won the G1 Prix Vermeille and G1 Prix de l’Opera on her previous two starts.
Owned and bred by The Aga Khan, Tarnawa is the first foal of the Stakes-winning Cape Cross mare Tarana, who herself is a daughter of the Listed Galtres Stakes heroine Tarakala.
Shamardal is the sire of 21 G1 winners including Champion juveniles Pinatubo and Earthlight, who will both join the European Darley roster in 2021.
