Royal Ascot winner Crystal Black took his form to a new level when winning the G3 Ballyroan Stakes at Leopardstown on Thursday 8 August on his first start in Stakes company. He was recording his fifth straight victory, a run which included Royal Ascot success in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes.
Help up in rear, Crystal Black made smooth headway two furlongs out, and with a furlong to run he hit the front and went clear to win by a commanding five lengths. The Melbourne Cup now looks the likely target, a race in which his sire Teofilo has excelled in, siring three winners of the race in the last six years.

Bred by Moyglare Stud, Crystal Black is out of the multiple Group winner and six-time Stakes winner She’s Our Mark, making him a half-brother to Stakes performer Titanium Sky.
Teofilo has now sired seven Black Type winners so far this year, including G2 Singspiel Stakes winner Naval Power and Post Impressionist, winner of the G3 Manion Cup at Rosehill.
