Teofilo was the sire of a second Stakes winner this weekend when his five-year-old son, Alessio landed the Listed Großer Preis der VGH Versicherungen at Hannover, Germany on Sunday, 16 June. This followed on from Alegron’s tremendous last to first victory in yesterday’s Brisbane Cup at Eagle Farm.
Trained by Peter Schiergen, Alessio made good headway in the straight and fought on gamely to get the better of Lotterbov in the final strides of the 3000m contest. This was a third Black Type win for Alessio, having won the G2 Oleander Rennen on his seasonal debut in April and the G3 Länd Trophy last October.
Owned and bred by Gestüt Ittlingen, Alessio is a son of the multiple winning mare Alandia, who is a half-sister to Champion stayer Altano. She has bred three other winners and has an unraced two-year-old own-sister to Alessio.
Teofilo has now sired six Black Type winners so far this year, including Naval Power (G2 Singspiel Stakes) and Post Impressionist, who scored in the G3 NE Manion Cup at Rosehill.
