Birr Castle has been an ultra-consistent performer for his sire Cloth Of Stars, finishing out of the frame only once in 10 starts. On Friday 27 October, the Godolphin colt added a well-deserved second Black Type win to his record with an impressive victory in the Gran Prix du Nord, run over 2,000m at Chantilly.
Settled in second under Mickael Barzalona, Birr Castle took up the running shortly before the halfway stage. Ridden along two furlongs out, Andre Fabre’s charge quickened well despite the testing conditions and won by a length and three quarters.
Previously winner of the Listed Prix Pelleas back in July, Birr Castle has also been placed in the G2 Prix Guillaume d’Ornano and G3 Prix du Prince d’Orange.
Birr Castle was bred by Francois Rohaut and is out of the multiple winner Baki, dam of two further Stakes winners in King Shalaa and Waltham.
Cloth Of Stars is also sire of fellow Group performer Dallas Star, plus the Listed-placed filly Maymay.
