A place in the G1 Stradbroke Handicap is the next goal for classy colt Dawn Passage following his victory in the G3 Fred Best Classic at Doomben in Queensland on Saturday, 30 May.
Clearly the best of Dawn Approah’s Australian-bred runners, Dawn Passage would go to the top of his sire’s global list should he win next weekend’s Brisbane feature for which he is now one of the best-qualified runners.
Already one of Dawn Approach’s 11 Stakes winners, Dawn Passage had to be used early to race outside the leader, but he had the race under control at the 300m when he strolled up to apply irresistible pressure.
The colt forged clear in the final stages and was untouched on the line, beating Exhilarates by three-quarters of a length.
Dawn Passage won the Listed Scone Guineas in New South Wales at his previous run and the G3 Hawkesbury Guineas before that.
A A$150,000 yearling purchase by the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott training partnership at the 2018 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale where he was offered by Mill Park Stud and bred by The Toorak Thoroughbred Breeding Trust, Dawn Passage is out of the Deveraja mare Raja Lane and is a half-brother to seven winners including Dinkum Diamond who was successful at G3-level.
Dawn Approach stood the latest northern hemisphere breeding season at Kildangan Stud.
