For the second consecutive year a Dubawi yearling topped the charts at Tattersalls, selling for 2,600,000gns to Roger Varian on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid.
The high point was reached just 13 lots into the opening session of the three-day sale, with the winning bid made for a March-born colt out of the dual G1 winner Izzi Top. Offered by Mark Weinfeld's Meon Valley Stud, the colt is a half-brother to Dreamfield, a dual winner at two last season for John Gosden (lot 13). He is also closely related to one of last year's Book 1 sales toppers in Emaraaty (Dubawi), also sold for 2,6m gns, who won his maiden last month for Gosden and Sheikh Hamdan al Maktoum.
Later in the sale, a Dubawi colt from the outstanding family of Jude (lot 64) was snapped up by Peter Brandt 's White Birch Farm for 425,000gns, while earlier a full-sister to the G2-winning miler Aljamaaheer (Dubawi) was purchased by Godolphin for 420,000gns (lot 23).
Shamardal also hit the heights during the opening session with a pair of yearlings selling for 500,000gns apiece. The first was a colt out of Highclere Stud's excellent mare Night Frolic who has already produced the G2 Dante Stakes victor Bonfire (Manduro) and Royal Ascot heroine Joviality (Cape Cross). The February-born colt was purchased by Roger Varian (lot 125). Just over an hour later, Alistair Donald struck for the second of the pair, snapping up a full-sister to the Australian G2 winner Puissance de Lune (lot 153) from Round Hill Stud's family of Rizeena (Iffraaj).
The final Cape Cross colt to be offered at Book 1 attracted plenty of attention but eventually went the way of Godolphin, who secured the son of a winning sister to the G1-placed Wekeela for 475,000gns (lot 90).
Lot 27 became one of the most expensive daughters of Iffraaj to sell at public auction when knocked down to Godolphin for 350,000gns. Her dam has already produced two winners and is a half-sister to the top juvenile Damson, dam of speedy juvenile Requinto.
