Heading the roster once again is Dubawi (pictured), one of the world’s leading sires whose four G1 winners this year include three-time G1 winner Al Kazeem. The performances of Dubawi’s first four crops make him the world’s leading sire by percentage of Stakes winners and Group winners to runners. His fee for 2014 has been set at £100,000.
Fellow Dalham Hall resident New Approach is a spectacular young stallion. The Champion first-season sire of last year has now gone on to sire two Classic winners - 2,000 Guineas victor and new Darley stallion Dawn Approach, and Oaks heroine Talent. New Approach will stand at a fee of £80,000 in 2014. Dawn Approach becomes the first son of New Approach to retire to stud and will stand at Kildangan Stud in Ireland at a fee of €35,000.
Leading Darley’s roster in Ireland is Shamardal, whose Mukhadram so bravely battled it out with Al Kazeem in the G1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot this year in one of the best finishes of the meeting. Shamardal’s fee will remain at €50,000 in 2014.
Teofilo is another who has enjoyed a superb season, siring Irish Derby winner Trading Leather, G1 Prix Jean Prat winner Havana Gold, and Voleuse de Coeurs - who took the Irish St Leger by an astounding six lengths. Teofilo’s 2014 fee has also been set at €50,000.
Iffraaj has enjoyed his best year yet. His daughter Rizeena took the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot en route to victory in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. She found only her paternal half-sister Chriselliam too good in the G1 Fillies’ Mile, a race that has now been won by a daughter of a Darley stallion for the past three years. Iffraaj is also sire of Hot Streak, yet another of Europe’s best juveniles and his fee next year will be €25,000.
Farhh and Reckless Abandon join Dawn Approach as new Darley stallions in 2014. Dual G1 winner Farhh was the brilliant victor of the G1 Champion Stakes earlier this month. He retired as Europe’s highest-rated older horse and the best ever by his sire Pivotal. Farhh will stand at Dalham Hall Stud at a fee of £17,500. Reckless Abandon, a Champion juvenile and highly-talented sprinter who was never beaten by a horse from his own generation, enters stud at Kildangan at a fee of €10,000.
Exceed And Excel, Australia’s reigning Champion stallion and still the world’s leading sire of two-year-old winners, Stakes winners and Stakes horses, remains at a fee of £35,000. He will be joined at Dalham Hall Stud next year by his son Helmet, the record-breaking Guineas winner whose first foals are earning rave reviews in Australia. Helmet will stand at a fee of £8,000 in 2014.
Authorized, who will relocate from Dalham Hall to Haras du Logis next year and stand at a fee of €10,000, is another to have enjoyed his most successful year as a stallion, siring three G1 winners in Champion Fillies And Mares heroine Seal Of Approval, Pretty Polly Stakes winner Ambivalent, and Complacent - winner of the Spring Champion Stakes in Australia this season.
Sam Bullard, Darley’s Director of Stallions said, “The Darley stallions have had an unprecedented year. Our stallions have sired more G1 winners than ever before, we are thrilled with their achievements and are very thankful to breeders who have contributed to that success. We couldn’t be asking any more of Dubawi and New Approach. Both are siring Champions and have stallion sons retiring which is testament to their achievements.”
Bullard continued, “In 2014 we welcome Dawn Approach who is the image of his father in many ways. His foundations, victories and physique are so reminiscent of New Approach. Farhh's win in the Champion Stakes after his Lockinge victory was a fitting finale to a brilliant career. Farhh was tough and resilient and faced such outstanding peers on the track. Reckless Abandon, last year’s Champion juvenile and outstanding sprinter, will be a popular option for precocity with breeders in 2014. We are delighted to have all three join us and look forward to showing them to breeders during the forthcoming breeding stock sales.”
