Press Release
Sheikh Mohammed's G1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes winner Poet's Voice has been retired to Dalham Hall Stud. He will stand alongside his sire Dubawi, on the stud where he was foaled and where his grandsire, Dubai Millennium – who also won the QE II – is buried.
Poet's Voice, from the outstanding Dubawi's debut crop, was his sire's second Group winner, taking the G2 Champagne Stakes at Doncaster, having opened his account in a Newmarket conditions event by ten lengths. At three, he returned to form with a four-and-a-half length triumph in the G2 Celebration Mile before his fast-finishing victory over a quality field in Europe's greatest mile race, the QE II: the previous year's winner Rip Van Winkle was second and Dubawi's 2,000 Guineas winner Makfi was further back. Poet’s Voice was emulating his grandsire's win in the race as a three-year-old 11 years before.
Poet's Voice has a fine pedigree for his new career being from both the sire line and the same female family as two-time American Champion sire Exclusive Native.
Sam Bullard, Darley's director of stallions, said, “Poet's Voice was a top miler whose win in the QE II was very special for Sheikh Mohammed and all the Godolphin and Darley team. He showed he has the class and the turn-of-foot of an outstanding racehorse, and of course he was such a good two-year-old too. He certainly looks the part – powerful, and a lovely mover, with a bit more size and even more quality than his sire. And his pedigree – by the best young stallion in Europe and from a stallion-producing family – leaves nothing to be desired. It's a particular pleasure welcoming him back to Dalham Hall Stud where he was foaled and raised, and where his sire and grandsire have made such an impression.”
A fee for Poet's Voice will be set later in the month.
