Battle Of Hastings, a three-year-old son of Royal Applause, continued his excellent record in the United States, winning the nine-and-a-half furlong G2 Colonial Turf Cup Stakes at Colonial Downs on 20 June.
Settled in fifth position, Battle Of Hastings raced wide until being switched to the inside rail approaching the final turn – a move which proved decisive as he accelerated down the home straight and held off a late charge from Straight Story to win by a neck.
Since transferring to the US, Battle Of Hastings has recorded three wins and one second in five starts including victory in the G3 Baldwin Stakes and the Listed La Puente Stakes. He has now amassed earnings of almost $475,000. Bred by Myriad Communications in partnership with New England Stud, he was previously trained by Michael Bell in the UK, where he won twice before being purchased by current owner Mike House.
Also on Saturday, Young Tiger (Tiger Hill) took his tally of Black type wins to three when landing the Listed Grand Prix de Lyon in France. The eight-year-old has been a remarkably consistent performer, finishing in the money in 22 starts including ten wins.
