First-season sire Shamardal recorded his tenth individual winner on 16 August when Zazou landed the BBAG Sales race at Cologne.
Owned and bred by Eckhard Sauren and trained by Mario Hofer, Zazou won the six-and-a-half furlong contest by a neck from Tettman with Noble Alpha (also by Shamardal) taking third place.
Zazou could now step up in class for his next appearance, as he holds entries in several Black type races including the G3 Zukunfts Rennen and G3 Preis der Winterfavoriten.
Also in Germany on Sunday, Godolphin’s Eastern Anthem (Singspiel) posted a creditable performance to take third in the G1 Rheinland-Pokal whilst Allybar (King's Best) finished third in the G2 Prix Guillaume d'Ornano at Deauville.
Closer to home, Please Sing (Royal Applause) added further Black type to her CV when second in the Listed Dick Hern Fillies’ Stakes at Bath.
