The Darley stallions continued their hugely successful weekend on 27 September when just a day after Hibaayeb became Singspiel's 12th G1 winner, Shakespearean, from the first crop of Shamardal (pictured), propelled his sire to the head of the first-season sires’ table by prize money when leading from pillar to post to win the Goffs Million Mile at the Curragh.
Already the winner of the G3 Solario Stakes, the Mark Johnston-trained colt has now won on three occasions and was also third in the G2 Superlative Stakes. He is now likely to step up to G1 level for his next start.
Bred by Mrs H Owen and now owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed al Maktoum, he is out of Paimpolaise, herself a half-sister to Pont Aven who is the dam of four Black type winners including Sainte Marine and Josr Algarhoud.
Earlier at the Curragh, Halling's promising juvenile son Layali Al Andalus finished a creditable second behind odds-on favourite St Nicholas Abbey in the G2 Beresford Stakes to become his sire's eleventh Black type performer this year.
Also on Sunday, Kheleyf's three-year-old son Sayif gained a well-deserved first Stakes win at Ascot with a two-and-a-half length victory in the G2 Diadem Stakes at Ascot.
Settled behind the early pacesetters, the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained colt took the lead two furlongs from home and ran on well to record a convincing win.
Bred by Crandon Park Stud, Sayif is out of Sewards Folly who is also dam of G3 winner Hunter Street. Placed fourth in the G1 Sprint Cup last time out, Sayif was also second in the G1 Middle Park Stakes as a juvenile. A 200,000 guinea yearling, he is now owned by Saleh Al Homaizi & Imad Al Sagar, whose colours were carried to victory in the 2007 Derby by Authorized.
There was also further Stakes success for Dubai Destination, when his three-year-old daughter Dubai Rose provided him with his second Black type winner in two days, winning the Listed Kolner Stuten-Trophy at Cologne.
Also at Cologne, Eastern Anthem (Singspiel) was beaten by the narrowest of margins to take second in the G1 Preis von Europa, with Eliot (Tiger Hill) finishing third.
