Shamardal, Europe’s leading first-season sire by prize money, recorded his 20th individual winner on 23 October when Godolphin filly Modeyra made a successful racecourse debut at Doncaster.
Travelling well throughout the one-mile contest under Frankie Dettori, Modeyra began to make headway with three furlongs left to run and taking the lead just over a furlong from home, ran on strongly to win by half a length from the more experienced Gertrude Bell.
Bred by Darley, she is out of G1 Nassau Stakes winner Zahrat Dubai (Unfuwain), who also finished third in the Oaks – a race for which Modeyra herself has now earned quotes of 33-1.
Also on Friday, Zazou, who is also from Shamardal’s first crop, recorded his second victory when conceding weight all round to win a valuable sales race at Baden-Baden.
Owned and bred by Eckhard Sauren, Zazou is out of the Stakes-winning Lomitas mare Zaza Top.
