On yet another strong day’s trade at Tattersalls, Mount Coote Stud enjoyed some successful results courtesy of a pair of Darley stallions.
The stud’s Shamardal colt out of Zither was knocked down to Darley Flying Start graduate Stuart Boman, now with Blandford Bloodstock, for 350,000gns, while a colt by Cape Cross from the good Wildenstein family of Aquarelliste and Arcangues fetched 340,000gns when sold to Shadwell.
The Castlebridge Consignment also sold a son of Cape Cross ex Athenian Way for 200,000gns, while Corduff Stud’s colt out of Anbella made 100,000gns. For the three-day sale, Cape Cross had 19 yearlings sell for an average of 146,000gns and a top price of 500,000gns.
Dubawi, the sire of two G1 winners just last weekend, had a select bunch of yearlings in Book 1, with Genesis Green’s colt out of Strings, a half-sister to the stud’s French Classic winner Victory Note, selling for 190,000gns to Peter and Ross Doyle. Dubawi’s average for six sold over the three days was 166,667gns from his 2009 fee of £15,000.
Two colts by Authorized reached the six-figure mark on the final day of Book 1, including a son of Last Tycoon’s half-sister Zelda, which sold for 180,000gns.
Authorized's former co-owner Saleh Al Hamaizi plumped for the sole yearling by Kheleyf in the sale, a colt out of the Listed winner Blue Echo, who left the ring with a 220,000gns price tag on his head.
The first yearlings of Raven’s Pass continue to be well received: a half-sister to Dunelight was knocked down to Jeremy Brummitt for 160,000gns and Tony Nerses bought a filly out of G3 winner Acts Of Grace for 130,000gns.
Fellow freshman New Approach was also on the mark with a trio of pricey lots, with John Warren, John O’Byrne and Peter Doyle going to 135,000gns, 125,000gns and 120,000gns respectively to secure a yearling by the champion racehorse of 2008.
Liam Norris and William Huntingdon have clearly been suitably impressed by the exploits of Teofilo’s first runners to stretch to 160,000gns for a filly by him out of Airlie Stud’s Vassiana.
From a 2009 fee of only £12,000, Exceed And Excel’s average remained firmly in the six-figure bracket with his daughter out of Something Blue added to Shadwell’s list of purchases for 130,000gns and the Hillwood Stud-consigned colt out of Broadway Hit making a late splash at 145,000gns three lots from the end of the sale.
