Able One, by Darley stallion and leading sire Cape Cross (pictured), posted a magnificent performance to record his second victory in the valuable G1 Champions Mile at Sha Tin, Hong Kong on Sunday.
Settled off the pace under Darren Beadman, the John Moore-trained gelding took up the running a furlong from home and showing an impressive turn of foot, held off the late challenge from favourite Fellowship to win by three-quarters of a length.
Able One has been a marvellous flag bearer for his sire in Hong Kong, having won this race three years ago and a further two Black type races including the Chairman’s Trophy earlier this month. He has now earned well over £1 million in prize money.
Bred in New Zealand by Sir Patrick and Lady Hogan, Able One is out of the Danehill mare Gardenia who is also dam of another Stakes winner by Cape Cross in Florilegium. They are from the family of Shamoline Warrior – a Group-winning son of Shamardal, who incidentally added another Stakes winner in Australia just yesterday when Happy Hippy took the Listed James HB Carr Stakes at Randwick.
Cape Cross, sire of seven individual G1 winners to date including dual Classic winner Ouija Board and the unrivalled Sea The Stars, has already sired nine Black type performers in 2010.
