Last seasons top juvenile in Singapore, Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) cemented himself as the outstanding performer of his generation when landing the third and final leg of the Singapore Three-Year-Old Challenge, the Listed Singapore Guineas over 1600m. Always at the front in this local G1 contest, the heavily supported favourite never saw another rival to win cosily by one-and-a-half lengths.
The two previous legs, both at Kranji, were the 1200m Singapore 3yo Sprint and the 1400m Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic and Gingerbread Man now holds the enviable record of eight wins in an eleven race career.
Bred in Australia by Mr R Harvey, he is the second foal and second winner from the Hurricane Sky dam Quaffle, herself a half-sister to Stakes winner Golden Snitch and a granddaughter of G1 winner Spyglass. Quaffle also has a yearling colt and filly foal by top Darley stallion Bernardini.
Sire of four G1 winners globally, Shamardal sired a mammoth five Group winning juveniles last season in Europe, a figure un-matched by any stallion in the Northern Hemisphere where he currently stands for €50,000 at Kildangan Stud in Ireland.
